I like the rolling codes on the main screen, but the problem is they are slightly to fast. Also, I'd like to be able to click the "[more]" to see the rest of the text without having to go to the gokode page for that code. And, if one scrolled by that looked interesting, but I missed it, I want to be able to scroll...

back to that one. And maybe not have it advance to the next gokode if my mouse pointer is hovering over the text.
by adam 10-22-10 10:58 PM
Agree on both points. I think they did freeze before the last update.
by mark 10-22-10 11:02 PM
I think it would be better if people can see how many followers each gokode has on the profile lists. That would be another way for people to discover gokodes by its popularity.

I think a most recent list that expands is more important than a most followed list. Especially at the our inception. The 1st thing I do is read the most recent bar.
1676 >> by lou 10-13-10 10:02 AM

The rolling recently added bar at the top has (in my mind) always been slotted for 'featured' gokodes, ones we explicitly highlight for whatever reasons we want. I'd like to either replace 'most popular' with 'recently added', or have slip in between updated and popular to have three lists on the home page.
by mike 10-13-10 10:24 AM
Ultimately, I'd like to let the user decide what he or she sees on the home page when they login.
by mike 10-13-10 10:25 AM
That was a point I made yesterday. It would be cool if the user can customize gokode the way it works best for them.
by lou 10-13-10 11:06 AM
That, in my mind, has pretty much always been the plan. The issue now is with multiple profiles. If we're gonna allow users to maintain such settings, it should be by profile and not globally. All it takes is time...
by mike 10-14-10 10:37 AM
Is it possible to make a comment on a previous gokode?
1672 >> by gaoqi 10-12-10 02:54 PM

Not quite yet. It's something I'm working on now along with some under-the-hood, house-cleaning to boost performance and maintainability of the code base.
by mike 10-13-10 09:47 AM
You could charge for that service so they don't have to do anything or they can manually do it and it's free.

I saw Lou's restaraunt gokodes and got an idea...instead of restaurant having to change their gokode daily as the special changes they can just have the link to their website like Lou has done but the can subscribe to a gokode service that will change the date daily on their gokode automatically so that their gokode

This is a good one. We talked about functionality like this for 'manage' some time ago. Thanks klotz, we'll revisit this one.

On the "search" bar, a "random gokode" button, like "I am feeling lucky" in google? That's what I meant in comment 816.

More gokode thoughts: how about a random gokode button? That can lead you to a random coolest gokode you might never discover otherwise.
816 >> by gaoqi 06-24-10 09:43 PM

A thought to pile on to your thought; how about a random-word gokode generator like those refrigerator magnets for making random phrases/poems?
by mike 06-24-10 10:16 PM
Craziness.
by mark 06-25-10 07:41 AM
Would it be better if every user is able to see the recently viewed gokode? I often have this urge when I browse gokode. I think it will be useful especially when gokode bank becomes much larger.
813 >> by gaoqi 06-24-10 09:30 PM

There are a few issues regarding this one, mostly related to overhead with tracking a 'view.' To tired to go into to much detail now, but I'm sure it will come up in the not to distant future (again!).
by mike 06-24-10 10:11 PM
This is an interesting one. Not only because it would be useful, but I think that kind of UI stuff is important to consider. Adding functions while keeping navigation easy will always be a working goal.
by mark 06-25-10 07:44 AM
Follow method: instead of "none", should it be "web only"?
812 >> by gaoqi 06-24-10 09:27 PM
characters
Another thought: Perhaps in 'my gokodes' and 'gokodes I follow', they could be toggled for 'show in profile'. Ex: when you look at my profile, you could see 'gokodes Mark follows', and 'gokodes Mark has made', that I am willing to share.
792 >> by mark 06-23-10 11:50 AM
characters
A thought: Potentially just as useful as SMS/email alerts for when a gokode I follow is updated, it'd be great if I could get an alert when someone commented on a gokode that I own. That would be a gokode-unique feature. Not for now, but I wanted to make a note of it.
753 >> by mark 06-16-10 09:55 AM
characters
Actually, the volume of SMS for this function would probably be lower than updates for all followers.
by mark 06-16-10 12:13 PM
Would that include replies, do you think? How about a gokode 'activity' view, kinda like 'my gokodes' or 'gokodes I follow'. It would automatically show up in the nav menu, grouped an sorted by the type of activity.
by mike 06-16-10 06:32 PM
I think it would have to include replies. A 'gokode activity' might be good. Or maybe 'my gokodes could default sort by activity. Then when we have other sort options, 'by activity' could be one of many.
by mark 06-23-10 11:47 AM
I think it would be helpful if there is an announcement window on the front page, briefly demonstrating the different functions of gokode. So that people can have better ideas about gokode.

Should avatars follow a gokode into its history?
704 >> by mike 06-01-10 12:14 PM
characters
No. I don't think so. I think that would be unconventional, and usually when I want an avatar to change, I want it to be global. It would be easier on storage too, wouldn't it?
by mark 06-01-10 01:04 PM
I'm inclined to agree with you. I see them as being global to the gokode. Also, they'd take up a lot of server runtime memory. So...good answer. :)
by mike 06-01-10 01:29 PM
Can we remove the 'Full Name' requirement from registration, with the option to add it in the profile later? I think it's a turn-off.
674 >> by mark 05-20-10 09:29 PM
characters
It's not a required field, and it seems like a good time to collect it for those that are inclined to provide it. Just sayin.
by mike 05-20-10 09:49 PM
Huh. Ok, how about we use * to indicate required fields? -It's just that the registration field is where most new services lose me. Do we even need that info?
by mark 05-20-10 10:04 PM
Only 'cause, for someone that wants to be found, it'll be the correct name. I don't see a problem with moving it to the profile/control panel.
by mike 05-23-10 07:02 PM
Groovy. I think that registration bar should be as low as possible.

I think 'allow for comments', and the 'expiration date' should be in the manage tab. It makes more sense there, and gets something in the tab.

Sorry 'bout that. It's not quite as easy as it would seem, and I'm waiting until I setup our new to configure to work at the 'host' level.
by mike 05-10-10 11:11 PM
I think most of the time I'd want the content. Or the first 160 or so of a comment 140?... But a general update might be a future option. Maybe that one only alerts at a set interval.
546 >> by mark 05-01-10 12:29 PM
characters
Here's a question to ponder: When we have gokode update alerts, should the alert send text that announces that the gokode has been updated and the follower queries the gk to get the content, or should we just send the content as the update alert? I see situations where both would be desirable, but which to we employ?

Small request: Stats tab probably doesn't need 'number of' for each stat. Seems redundant. Could drop it and it still makes sense.

Re 337&442> Yep. A lightweight and flexible communication platform is where we are pointed. Of course a gokode could work for social conversation, like a microblog maybe, but each gokode represents a tool within the service, rather than the service itself.

also mentioned in gokodebugs but should be submitted here is the ability for 'voluntary' spell checking. I know with all of the strange communication today and acronyms, probably invoking the spell checker on a voluntary basis would be beneficial to the user if it was desired.

Mike, forgive my ignorance on the language your coding in here and this may sound elementary but I think the comment box lacks.... a lot of stuff! It says 'no html' at the bottom. Wouldn't allowing html code make it a little more user friendly, and fun? The editing here leaves much to be desired. Just a thought.
